Another new year has dawned and I have decided to draw up a list of things to achieve for 2026. Nothing serious or set in stone, just some fun things.

1. Lose some weight. I made a mistake of looking at my BMI figures at the start of December. What a lot of tosh those are. I am 7kg overweight apparently. If I lose 7kg, I will be falling through the grids in the street. But I have lost 2kg and another 2kg will do.

2. Take a glider flight. I have always fancied one.

3. A long motorbike ride on my Honda Super Cub 125. Denmark end to end may do. Or possibly a trip down South.

4. Grow some vegetables. I have a new allotment and want to get some salad and potatoes in.

5. Spend weekends away, walking with Jannie. February 15th and 16th are already booked.

6. Do a lot of Conqueror Challenges.

7. I have a new Yedoo scooter on order and so a Denmark Coast 2 Coast would be interesting.

I am sure other things will pop up. But its good to have something to aim for.

What are you aiming for in 2026?

I need to do my usual - lose about 14kg. I mainly succeed every couple of years, so fingers crossed. at 80kg I'm the heaviest I've ever been (I'm only 5'7").

Also pay attention to my teeth, I've got into the habit of not brushing 4 or 5 times a week.

Probably just to lose a few LB’s. *Although I’ve always felt fitter and stronger being supposedly ‘overweight’ compared to any and all suggested ideals.

I more than got the moving / burning calories part last year. But failed to Master the calorific intake side of the equation….

Get another bike ! One specifically to do road/and off road touring - i.e. a gravel bike with lots of mounting points - doing 4 days off road bike packing with a 'p-clipped' pannier rack made some interesting handling. I've noticed far too many gravel bikes have next to no fittings - they might as well be a CX race bike.

Do some longer rides, possible out, camp and back.

Not fall off badly. I think I've got another 8-9 years before I have another bad one - I average bad accidents once every 9-10 years

This year's mileage has been terrible, but that's been down to recovery.

Oh and no riding in the ice !

I am with you on that one!

I got away with minor cuts and bruises after each of 4 heavy crashes on ice but another one at my age could be very serious. It just isn't worth the risk.

Even when the main roads are gritted I have use ungritted roads to get to them.

I have a great smart turbo trainer setup which I am using instead. I will do another 1.5 hours on that this afternoon.
