Welcome trb. Yea, another Manc. Good luck with challenge.

Thank you all so much for the lovely, helpful messages :hello: my husband rides a mtb so I can go out with him but obviously not on the roads, problem I have that my mum is adamant that she doesnt want me to ride on the roads after what happened to my brother. At the moment I am using my brothers CycleOps magnito version in the garage to practise, although it is good for training it doesn't have the same appeal as the outdoors. I will perservere with the saddle pain then and hope things get better and also change the tyres, anything that helps is good.
Hi, welcome and good look with the challenge

You may well find some of the issues are the saddle. Your brother would have had a men's saddle on the bike and you may well need to change it over to a women's saddle which is better suited to your backside. Also saddle come in different widths and women often need wider ones than men, plus don't go for the most padded looking gel saddle in the shop, they are not the most comfortable in the long run.

H @trb , only two weeks to go until the big day. How do you feel about it now? Did your brother ever ride in it( this is the 3rd year)?
This year will be my 3rd and the 2nd time at 26 miles. I did the first one aged 49 just doing 13 miles and had the best time ever as I'd never take part in any kind of organised event before.
I've just found this thread after searching 'Manchester'. There is another thread about The Great Manchester Cycle which I found the other day. It is in the Roads, Clubs, Events section. Then go to Road Rides, Audax and Sportives. Then find the Great Manchester Cycle thread. There is probably a way to link to it but not sure how to do that!
Anyway, Hope you have a great time and wish you good luck.

Hi TRB. Welcome to the forums. I was sorry to hear about your brother. Cycling statistics are just that until it is someone near to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you. It's a great thing that you're doing and I can understand your mum's concerns. I guess that feeling will never subside but your goal is to complete the 13 miles and doing it in honour of your brother is a great thing to do in his memory. You seem to be doing well and, if you follow the advice from other members you'll be just fine. A friend of mine, a long time road cyclist recommends vaseline to ease the friction on your tender parts. A longer term solution is to use a suitable leather saddle rather than a sweaty plastic one but you haven't really got the time to "break" one in before your ride. My advice is persevere. Take each mile as it comes and take comfort from the thought that everyone on here is behind you.
