My son is type 1. Best advice for a Type 2 is limit your simple sugars/carbs - you still need them, but ditch donuts, white bread etc. Wheetabix.

If you can control your diet, you'll need less medication. If you don't you may well end up on insulin injections (my MIL is now).

Exercising more is another good way of regulating blood sugars. My son is on an insulin pmp - came down with T1 agd 14, now 19. He's thin !

welcome to cycle chat - I'm not able to advise, but for clarification, is it general 24/7 advice on diet or just diet for when you are out on a ride?

I'm T2 myself and wrote a short ebook which is on Amazon here - Sugar Beat - Amazon
Its not about serious training but has some nutritional advice in it. If you fancy reading it P.M me an email address and I'll send you a free PDF copy...
Same for anyone else who fancies reading it

Edit just clicked the link and it didnt work... just fixed it!

Hi I didn't make myself clear earlier my fault I put in about the donut as a joke in truth I did not expect a response. Anyway here is a bit more info I'm 5ft10 12 stone I don't eat any sweets choc biscuits cake nor do I smoke and haven't had a drink since early April. The info I was looking for is what to eat pre ride but especially post ride family members saying I should eat bananas don't know if I should or not and what should I do about wheetabix thank you

Have you considered asking here also? https://www.diabetes.org.uk/

There is a support forum that may be of more use.

I wouldn't have thought sugary fruits to be a good idea, Perhaps berries which have a lower GI be a better idea?
