Hi there.

I am in the process of trying to get a used women's road bike to get started on my cycling journey. But as I am short (151cm), I was wondering what size bike I should be looking to try and get?

Was thinking circa 44cm frame (XXS)?! Could I also look at 46cm (XS) frame too?! Should I also consider down to 43cm?! The other thing I wanted advice on - I have been told/seen conflicting info re whether I stick with a standard 700 wheel or whether I could consider 650

Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance...

:welcome: to the forum. Manufacturers sizing guides are a good place to start, as they tell you what size is best for your height. Alternatively some bike shops and bike fitting specialists will offer a service where they measure you up and tell you what size of bike is best for you, but for secondhand bikes if the size being sold is not what they recommend you might want to consider whether or not to look elsewhere. Road bike sizing can be a pain as different manufacturers size bikes differently, a medium size from one brand might be significantly bigger than a medium from another brand. I still havent got my head around it completely. Best way to be sure is to sit on bikes before you buy, which you should be able to do with buying secondhand. Sometimes you can be between sizes, and can take two different sizes. A smaller size will give you a lower position and bike may feel agile, with a larger size you'll be more stretched out and the bike might be more stable but less responsive. Re wheel size - others probably have different opinions, but standard 700 c wheels is probably best for road cycling, 650 can be good for gravel riding apparently.

Hi :hello:
I can't offer any advise on sizing as I am brand new to cycling too and just bought my first "proper" bike online (tut tut) but hope you find the right one for you and enjoy your new hobby/life absorbing interest ^_^

hows the bike hunt going? Best advice would be to try before you buy but Xs or even s can work for you. might just need to adjust stem length and saddle position. Going 650b might be a good call too. where abouts in the world are you?
