I'm hoping to cycle this trip in a week or so and have only just started thinking of the route.
I was thinking of travelling very light on my road bike, perhaps taking two days, staying overnight somewhere near Brecon. I've driven around this area before but never really cycled it.
I've seen that NCN4 sort of does the route along the coast but it seems quite long for what I had in mind, and I don't know if this route would be suitable for a fast road bike.

Any suggestions would be welcome?

I did the NCN4 on a recumbent Trike last year without any problem s

It is an easy flat run and has some nice churches and pubs

Easily doable on a road bike and of course you get to play on the transporter bridge

Again the NCN route to Bristol is reasonable

However I would wrap up warm if you cross the bridge in this weather

Thanks guys (I'd forgotten about cyclestreets.net)
I think NCN4 might take a bit too long for this trip. and yes I will definitely be wrapping up warm in this weather!

Once over the Severn Bridge head south either following the country lanes or along the coast on the main road, although this can be busy. If you take this route when you reach Avonmouth head for the A4 into Bristol ( has a cyclepath alongside it ) passing under the Clifton Suspension Bridge
