Those solid bike tyres (Tannaus?) in the 90s?

I'm not entirely sure why I put a set on my Peugeot 531 road bike (from Halfords I think), I was only pootling around Southampton uni area doing ~3 miles max per journey, but even when I was ~70Kg back then they were so uncomfortable to ride on!

Yes, I remember trying those (late 80's rather than 90's) when I was commuting and getting what I felt were too many punctures. A sod to get on the rims, and then seriously horrid to ride on. Lasted a week before I took them off again.

I didn't know real people had them

I thought they only existed in hotel rooms.

I did tend to use the ones in hotels, and even half considered buying one. But as the suit at work days have now passed, as indeed have my "at work" days I really don't really need one. I do like to wear a suit if going for a meal or to the theatre

We still keep one in ours, used whenever we decide to divert away from motorways.

I do keep 250,000 OS maps in the car.

One in each of our cars and a third indoors. There is nothing like pondering over a good old fashion map, something that I have always done.

They were handy when satnavs where old and not easy to update (or impossible to do so for free). About 15 years ago I had to buy an Atlas in a petrol station, as I was trying to get to Ipswich and they'd closed the area of the M25 I needed. Satnav was useless. I guess with google maps now, they are not as desirable, and nor are Atlases
