I read that another contributing factor was the ICT 125.

Not flashy but cheaper and good enough. And good enough is good enough.

I saw a programme on it. I think the basic answer was put a 125 loco at either end and you achieve same speeds as APT without the problems etc.

The ‘tilting trains’ what a waste of money. As a track engineer we just embanked the curves and ordinary 125s just did the same job but faster.

I rescued my roller blades from the garage the other day and was going to take them to Eastbourne, where my daughters and grandchildren now live and skate with them on the sea front.

Alas, I think a mouse had found them first and chewed up one of the wheels.

yet despite its flaws... it's ultimately more successful than HS2, which will forever be a national embarrassment.

Several years ago I did the Berlin half marathon with my daughter who was working there at the time. They had an inline skate race before the running event, it was great to watch, insanely fast and the people up the " sharp end " looked just like the Olympic contenders with body suits and state of the art helmets 😎
