I read that another contributing factor was the ICT 125.
Not flashy but cheaper and good enough. And good enough is good enough.
I still see plenty of skateboarders but can't remember that last time i saw someone on roller-blades.
The APT could have gone a lot faster, but yeah, 125MPH seemed to become the standard in this country.I saw a programme on it. I think the basic answer was put a 125 loco at either end and you achieve same speeds as APT without the problems etc.
