We still have a landline, goodness knows why, the only calls we get these days are from scammers.

We still use the landline a lot more than my wife's mobile, and a little more than mine.

Partly because mobile reception is useless here, so the mobiles only work by calling over WiFi, and partly because my wife's mobile is rarely within hearing distance, even if it is charged and turned on.

Plusnet are turning off our landline facility next month (even though we are unlikely to get FTTP this year - we already have FTTC), so as we want to keep a home phone, will be switching us to EE, whose router includes an adapter, and we should keep the same number.

After three more nuisance calls before 10.00am this morning, we have finally made the decision just to unplug it. We will now ask Virgin to cancel the line.

Still got a landline here. Only my mother calls me on it. I don't use it for outgoing calls since my mobile deal is far far cheaper. I'm inclined to keep hold of the landline though... when the whole area had a power outage in Storm Desmond that lasted several days, none of the mobile masts were working but the landline did. One of the oddest things was seeing dozens of people queueing up to use the few telephone boxes left in town.

We still have a landline which is useful as the mobile signal is poor given the walls of the house are 2 foot thick. We tend use WhatsApp on the mobiles in the house.

In case people are not aware

most landlines are being discontinued and replaced with ones that connect to your broadband link

The only exceptions are for people who have a medical device that needs a proper landline

hence - if the power goes off - or your broadband fails - then the landline fails as well

I bought a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) for about £60 gives several hours of supply for the router and the fibre box. Also stops the router having to reset with a very short power cut.

Some providers can supply battery back up to keep the router going in the case of a power cut.

When is this? I'm not sure my parents are aware. They went through great pains when moving house to get broadband, new mobile contracts, and a landline because "what if we have a power cut". It seems an awfully expensive back-up, given that you can still use mobiles as long as you've got a bit of signal.
