NHS! Attacked

There is apparently also some concern that staff who were away from work on Friday may still have this sitting in their inbox

Frankly, the further the Tories are kept away from the NHS the better...

Yep ...... would not want them wasting £12.7 Bn on a National HNS IT system that had to be cancelled because it not fit for purpose

Either Labour nor Tories has a good record with NHS IT

Latest update, the surgery I use is still off, with no idea when they will get back on or how they will deal with the back log.

It's a bit annoying having the NHS singled out as being somehow incompetent, when other major organisations have also been seriously affected.

I think it maybe that so many got back up and running quickly where as some have not. You have I hope read the latest news page I put up from our NHS surgery.

Just had my first WannaCry-related scam call. Apparently they were calling from Microsoft and my laptop has reported it was infected.... I just needed to confirm some details and they'd sort it all for me.

They were told rather succinctly (and somewhat graphically) where to insert their scam.

Was that into a dark place?

Have you tried phoning them? The trust where I work is functioning perfectly normally from a clinical point of view, we've just isolated our network. So no external email and no internet access therefore no updating of websites.

I called them which only took 20 minutes to get past the engaged tone, which we think is extremely fast for this place. That is where I got the information from.

The trust here is operating as normal today.

A couple of Windows updates were also pushed out to all PC's over the weekend but.

Only 'issue' is highly restricted internet access whilst the IT team asses what, if anything, they need to change with regards to firewall settings to further safeguard against future attacks.

It was interesting that more health boards in Scotland (11 out 14) were hit than in England - but that none in Wales appear to have been affected. I wonder if anyone will actually look at the experiences across the devolved nations or whether we'll be back to silo views?
I do know that health boards under NHS Scotland much much more freely share data among each other than is the case in NHS England which may account for the large percentage being affected north of the border.

My current trust, located in the Greater Manchester area has reported no issues and the health board I am moving to in 7 weeks, NHS Lothian, is one of the three unaffected in Scotland.

I'm very interested to know if those that were unaffected were simply lucky or have been doing something different that can and should be shared across the NHS as a whole.

Two factors at present from what we have been told: -

1) Some Trusts/CCGs haven't applied patches to the servers leaving an opportunity for the ransomware to be able to deploy across a network
2) McAfee AV software caught it and the firewall stopped it whereas another AV software didn't catch it and it got into the system then propagated

A 3rd factor will be the speed at which IT services for those affected were able to isolate the system to prevent it spreading further.

This will need a long hard look at as it will not be the last time we see this attempted on the IT systems within the NHS and in fact, any organisation.

I love these

Keep them going with inept following of their instructions and after about ten minutes ask if the little Apple logo is relevant

They tend to hang up

There is no whole NHS it is a series of independent organisations operating under the umbrella ofvthe NHS

It is almost like a franchise
