You've just made it easier for them. Mesh makes it easier for them to climb along the branch.

I was hoping that they would get their little legs caught up and just dangle there, and wait for the Vultures to get it! ( I'm an animal lover really...honest)

We've got the same problem. Thought I out smarted them by putting a wire mesh around the branch, but the little feckers have found a way round it.....did someone mention a air rifle

How about attaching your wire mesh sleeve to a car battery?

You can buy a .177 air rifle for £49.99 in a shop in Bury. I'm tempted because I used to enjoy shooting cans, model aircraft, my sister's dolls, targets and once, my brother's leg. We don't have a squirrel problem though....

Still got my old Webley, OH not keen tho'. Not really practical where we live either, all too easy for the pellet to end up outside the premises.

My brother has squirrels getting in his attic again this year. Can be dangerous if they start chewing on wires. I just gave him one of my .22 rifles a few days ago. Actually it was his when we were kids and I traded him out of it 30 or 40 years ago. Now I give it back to him. Maybe I'll get lucky and he will clean it and dial the scope in and give it back but I have my doubts.
