Just been doing my maintenance and now I want to go out for a ride - only it's pitch dark. I'm told it's not wise to ride at night (even with lights, hi viz etc).

Any opinions??

By who? Friday Night Rides to the Coast wouldn't be a thing if that were true.

You're probably even safer at night than you are in the day because of the high contrast between your lights and the pitch blackness.

If I didn't ride in the dark I wouldn't get to and from work for a fair bit of the year. Now't wrong with riding in the dark, key is to have lights you can see by if you are going into unlit areas. I feel safer on a night than in a day, there tends to be less traffic and it is easier to see cars coming towards you, plus you seem to hear the cars coming up behind you better as well.

don't listen to the naysaying dolts.

riding at night, especially after midnight, when the roads are oh so quiet is highly addictive. Even the most familar local loop becomes a mystery in the dark.

Two lots of lights, front and rear, and you'll need proper "see-by" lights up front. Some reflective stuff. Leave the space lemon gear at home. Ride. Helmet light useful in case of visitation.

I've done loads at night since getting a decent front light. There's very little traffic about, you have many roads all to yourself.

Fit some good lights, wear something with reflectives on it and you'll be seen. Enjoy

Aw cheers dudes. I have got two lost of lights on the bike - I go to work at about half six and it's lightish but as of yet not quite daylight. One set is cateye and they are really bright.

True that the traffic is non existent good points well made all

I'm sure I've read posts in here where it's been bandied about to avoid riding at night. I go running at night and love driving at night.
Maybe I should listen to you lot seems I'm more the night time type
