Night time commuting on liverpool cycle path

Hello all,
I'm thinking of commuting to work in the dark along route 62 Liverpool, I will be cycling from West Derby to Halewood. Any advice as to lights, safety etc.

My first thoughts would be get the brightest lights you can afford and make your self highly visible. High visibility jacket and reflective strips, etc.

In case you didn't know, route 62 is completely car free. I would imagine the OPs primary concern would be security, not necessarily visibility.

That was my reaction too! No disrespect to Liverpool - I wouldn't fancy riding a dark path through any big city at night in case I encountered a group of ne'er-do-wells ...

My summer commute takes me through a public park, full of people. Don't use it in winter, have to ride round it as it's deserted, other than monsters hiding in the bushes waiting to spring out and murder me!

The loopline's fine during the day, but it has a bit of a reputation at night. I'd look for a quiet on-road route instead.

If you mean safety gear rather than safety of the route:
Helmets are much of a muchness in terms of protection so pick one you like and be sure to try it for correct fit as each manufacturer has a different idea of what a standard head shape is. I'd also recommend gloves (fingerless for summer) as taking the skin off the hands if you are unlucky enough to come off is quite unpleasant. (Found that one out the hard way )

As far as lights go, these: Link - Link offer quite a lot of light for very little money.
