Nightmare ride on perfect morning. Found out that both spare tube valves and the valve of on one installed on the bike are are of the removable core type, so when you try to unscrew your pump's screw on connector, the valves' cores screw out too. The result of this is rapid deflationsville and a long walk. I have never encountered removable core type presta valves before, I didn't even know they existed - until a few hours ago.

At least they hadn't been filled with "slime" or some other puncture stopping gunk as the ones on my OH's Dawes Geneva were. When the core came unscrewed on 1 of them it went everywhere. Apparently according to a LBS they were introduced to allow the filling of inner tubes with this stuff, but this may be a myth/hearsay, bloody shock though.

I had exactly the same issue.... a few months ago..... They are the work of the devil..... Now I either buy a brand I know or open the box and check the valves.....................

I think Conti are these type and agreed a pain in the bum if you have a pump that involves screwing on at all, as the unscrewing does just that

I'm not sure now but I think it might have been Conti that let a batch leave the factory without the cores tightened properly some years ago, caused a lot of us problems, if I find I've got one of these now I always take a pair of pliers to the core and make sure its tightened down as it should be, there's normally a pair of flat surfaces on them to get a grip on.
