I'm sure we all must get moments where you are all ready to go, looking forwards to going for a ride when you suddenly realise something that means you can't ride after all and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

I had one on Friday. Got a puncture on the way in. Ready to leave, am in a bit of a hurry, then suddenly remember the puncture that I meant to fix at lunchtime. Then I realise I haven't got a spare tube at work so I can't fix it quick enough and have to leave.

Then today I thought well I can fix it now, and I've brought in a spare tube just in case! And I fix it. Hooray, now I can ride home. Then I remember that I went home wearing my cleated shoes and my jacket on Friday and I didn't bring them in today. And I tried riding on my Crank Bros pedals once without cleated shoes and it was a horrific experience. And now it's raining.

And I got my new Buff in the post today and everything! Bah.

A few weekends ago. Lovely Sunday. Thought I'd get the MTB ready and go for a leisurely ride along the canal and into the local woods.

Got the bike ready - tyres pumped up, chain lubed , brakes checked. Changed into cycling gear and the heavens opened.

Waited half hour....an hour.....then three and finally decided that it wasn't going to stop and unchanged.

Bugger. Really wanted to go for a bit of off-roading after the weekday commuting. Weekend weather been sh1t since then.

The last three weeks are 'no cycling for me moments'. First the crazy weather, now a really nasty bug that is working through the whole family.

Pooh.

Weather stopped me for almost 2 weeks (managed 2 days) and now a stinker of a cold has me in the car again

only had to do another 3 days to reach my yearly target as well, now I'm thinking I won't make it, especially if this 2nd bout of snow and ice does come this week.

Looking back over the year it's mainly been illness/sniffles that has stopped me doing more this year.

Decided quite late to enter a 'cross event at Herne Hill, on a snowy day last year. Only way to make it on time was by getting the train to Euston and riding from there.

Got to station, train turns up. Packed in like tokyo commuters they were. On a Sunday morning.

Decided against it.

Two Sunday's running, me and my other half have got all keen to go cycling and have then found the path outside (good indicator of what local cycle tracks will be like) really slippery and icy; and have thought better of it.
The first time, we were all dressed in cycling clobber, bags packed, tyres pumped, etc.
Second time, learned from previously to check the paths first. ;)
