6 mile is pretty good. An old commute of mine used to be about 10 miles before I hit traffic lights, then only about 6 sets or so. My current one is about 20 sets in 8 miles, nothing compared to London though !

On my direct route 7.8 miles according to google maps then I hit Carryduff then lights every hole in the ditch and even worse going into Belfast.

I have NO traffic lights on my 13 mile (each way) commute 
the joy of living out in the sticks. I left work at 9pm tonight and saw 4 cars in the 13 miles.
As for bike lights, I wouldn't dare not have any because I only have about 2 miles of street lighting on the route I take.
As an aside, has anybody experienced a frozen saddle? I was putting my son's bike away just now and the damp from the fog had frozen making the saddle icy.
