Did a 102 miler on my loaded tourer yesterday as prep for my French end2end ride next week, and for the first time at this distance didn't wear Lycra shorts!! Wore my new "old skool" Corinne Dennis men's touring shorts and wow, they're fantastic! More room for the boys to breathe without being too baggy and no soreness at all, did another 40 mile leg stretcher this morning and still v comfy. No longer need to worry about looking like a badly made black pudding!

Sounds good!

I wore a pair of Endura baggy shorts on my Scottish trip last week and liked being able to walk into small Scottish shops without getting (too many) funny looks.

What I didn't like was the waistband fighting with my beer belly and the builder's bum tendency which required me to stop every 10 minutes or so to pull the shorts back up!

Where did you go to in Scotland, Colin? I'm really looking forward to my trip north of the border which starts in a couple of weeks.

Re the shorts: I'm thinking of buying some baggy-type shorts too, now that some of my current lycra ones are getting towards the end of their working lives.

The Oban area. I have family up there on my mum's side.

We had some incredibly stormy nights, but most of the days were much better. Typically though, the one really gorgeous day was Friday when we were setting off for home!

The longer days were really noticeable. I could still see a glow in the sky at about 23:30. I remember my mum telling me that it didn't get really dark up there until after midnight in mid-summer and now I can believe it.

I love Scotland and should really go up there more often. It's just such a long journey - with stops, it took us about 7 hours to drive up there from Yorkshire!

Thanks jags, although the epic stuff starts in Normandy at 7am on saturday!
Mine are x large, I'm 6'2" with 36" waist. For me they are a snug fit, neither tight nor baggy, but I do have big thighs. I'd say on me they look more like rugby shorts than mtb baggies if you know what I mean. As they dont grip the thigh, (and are a bit shorter) than lycra you wont get the daft tan line either.
I was able to try on in store at a stockist - Ghyllside Cycles Ambleside - so knew what I was getting, the large size was way too small for me.
So I guess it depends on your build, maybe you could find a local stockist and try on?

Sounds like a good excuse to fit a pair of braces to the shorts and wear them with a collarless white shirt and a flat cap.

So do I, and if I had relatives up there, I'd visit more often. I live down south so it's even further to reach.

I'm guessing that ColinJ has Endura Singletrack shorts. These are lovely shorts but IME Endura have never got the design of the waistband right (and I have two versions). Instead of having belt loops and a belt they have two gizmos on the side. The Endura Hummvee is probably the classic MTB short and if probably the one to go for if you fon't want to keep hitching them up.

just ordered from corienne dennis i went for the mountain bike shorts with padded insert expensive enough at 60odd euro but if they fit
i'm a happy camper.

I can't remember what type they are but I've just had a look and the labels only say 'Endura'.

You are right, there is no belt and there are two adjustable Velcro side straps.

I'm overweight so my waist is currently about 40" (). My shorts are XL and they are a snug fit with the waist band below the Sumo belly.

102 miles......fully loaded!!! l'm of to France thursday night Portsmouth/St Malo yet to ride my bike with all the panniers fitted.
35/45 miles a day for me maxs in France (unless l catch a train) l have no time limit so a more leisurely pace for me.

Best of luck on your travels.......if you should overtake a meandering cyclist peddling at a steadyish pace give him plenty of room it could be me.
