Off topic & don’t normally watch TV except Netflix & Prime but is there a way to uninstall the free view channels on your Samsung tv? Deleted all the BBC related content. Factory reset brings me to back to the initial set-up Samsung TV page and makes me tune them again?!.

Never paid for the license & wanting to keep it that way. Major watching happens on the eyepee tv though. 😀

That's the problem I have always thought about. Many TVs and devices come with BBC iPlayer as a native App. There seems no way to delete it, unless you can download some sort of file manager, which might not be on a lot of non-android platforms

I wouldn’t worry about uninstalling the iPlayer app, or Freeview channels. The offence is watching live tv or iPlayer without a licence, not having the capability to do so. They’d need to prove you watched it.

I'm not sure that's true. There's some videos on YT I've seen where they enter the property with a policeman. it seems that having a device with iPlayer on it is enough to prove that you watch it. Otherwise, how else would they prove an offense that would stand up in court, without monitoring your lounge with a camera 24/7? I could me wrong, happy to be corrected

But that would mean that several million people without a TV licence but with a pre-installed iPlayer app would be commiting an offence.

The offence is only made if you receive an iPlayer broadcast.

Don’t know about all the tv sets but on Samsung - settings - general - factory reset.

on Samsung freebies channel list - long press on the channel name & you can delete it. I did the same for both the tv & radio sections & deleted all the bbc channels including iplayer.

I once tried on my son's old tablet (lenovo) and it said it couldn't delete native apps. I guess it's hit or miss which devices allow you to do that.
There is a YT channel dedicated to this but I can't remmebr what the rules are. i.e. I know you don't have to let them in, but do you have to let them in if there's a police officer present? And once they're in, are you obliged to turn on your TV? I mean, they can't force the remote off you but maybe they log that you have refused an "inspection" and they can take it further. It's all very muddy, and I can see why the BBC are intent on spreading incomplete truths and using scare tactics

but do you have to let them in if there's a police officer present?

You only have to let them in if they have a warrant, there will only be a plod present if there is a warrant , and the cop is only there to prevent a breach of the police, not to assist , although some goons try to get them to ask the resident’s name, as you don’t have to give your name to the goon but you must to a constable.

Not overtly worried about the inspection part at all. Watch eyepee tv on a fire stick so I can disconnect / unplug it whenever I want. I just don’t want to do any thing with bbc as such & is just a precautionary measure.

Even if they do get a warrant which I think is highly unlikely, they can’t do squat as I would have already deleted all the channels that say bbc including the radio. You get my drift? Hence the question - how to not have free view at all on the tv (as any factory reset makes you tune them again)?.

I hit that problem with my previous Android phone (Meizu) that I had inherited as a hand-me-down from DIL.

While Settings was unable to uninstall an annoying popup app, it gave me enough information to be able to delete the executable via USB debugging.

It doesn't work like that, TV goon knocks on the door, when you answer they tell you who they are, you say no thank you & close the door, don't engage in a discussion with them, don't speak to them, that way you don't trip up & drop yourself in it, they are only sales people from Capita, and have no powers whatsoever, you have to sign in to iPlayer so they know if you're watching it, and can trace it back to your ip address if necessary, if you don't talk to them, they can't instigate a prosecution, let alone get The Police involved
