No wonder cyclists are hated

Blimey who is the boring monotone fella commentating.

i believe he's a driving instructor, but makes most of his income from youtube videos and he now has a 'just cycling' channel which is... "Trying to spread a positive cycling message. I've had enough of the conflict between different road users."

What he's really trying to do is get more viewers and subscribers so he can make more money from making videos of him watching other videos.

This is like some of the driving I see on roads at times

you watch it and wonder how they have managed to avoid a collision

I sometimes say to my wife that I am slowing down a fair bit for a while so that if the bloke that has just passed me causes a collision then I want to be well back from it
This bloke is like one of them

but I have never seen the problem they cause - they always seem to get away with it

until they don't
and then you can bet they say it is not their fault

basically - all will go well as long as everyone does what they expect them to do

I disagree with the title of this thread, it's simplistic to a fault. What does it even mean? Hated by a majority of the populace? By literally everyone? It's nonsense. A minority of drivers probably hate cyclists, and they're probably the same people who read rags like the Daily Mail and Telegraph. If we assume everyone hates cyclists we're no better than those that assume cyclists are all anarchic layabouts with no value to contribute to society. I don't think it's worth trying to appease people who have a predilection for hatred to begin with.

Quite why someone would want to perpetuate the tone of such acerbic toilet paper on our fine forum is beyond me. Please can we leave it to them and keep things a bit more nuanced here?

Problem is even a minority of drivers is in absolute numbers be quite a lot.
Of course it's not all drivers who hate cyclists.
The issue I find when riding is more a case of carelessness and seemingly oblivious drivers to my presence rather than any who I perceive to actually target me.
End result though can be the same, a dangerous close pass or similar.

I find that most drivers seem to behave and make way for me on my bike when they should
There are some - but there always are

I find that the concept that and statement starting with "All xxx do ....." are always wrong to at least some extent works well and most people understand it
SOme don;t - but again, there are always some

Some folks definitely hate us. Even on my local town Facebook page, on the odd occasion anyone brings up something about cyclists the amount of people who pile in with the usual complaints is sadly normal now. I don’t even get involved as it’s not worth increasing the blood pressure.

Yes, I agree with you Mo and see it in the local Facebook groups for the villages in my area. The comments are very predictable and not worthy of a response. These are people who won't or don't want to listen.

Of course good news is no news. If I had a camera I could put up many 4 - 5 hour videos of cyclists, me and my buddies, riding well, showing courtesy to pedestrians, other road users, acknowledging the many drivers who give us space and priority. That though wouldn't be very interesting.

I agree there are haters. I choose to ignore them because I do believe the vast majority of drivers show us respect. Overall driver attitudes towards cyclists have improved in recent years.

The people with the problem are the haters, it's water of a ducks back for me.

I don't believe cyclists are hated and always wonder why people suggest we are? However the two riders involved in this video are utter dick heads and shouldn't be allowed near a road of any sort in any form of transport they control. They give all cyclists a very bad name. That video had me flinching at several points.

"They give all cyclists a very bad name"
I don't consider every driver is a bad driver because of a few idiots on the road, so why relate that to cyclists?

Because it is this type of behaviour and video which grabs the attention and fuels the fire for those with a grudge against cyclists.

We are a minority group and are judged as such, as are every other minority.

Exactly what was explained further up, there is an undercurrent of nastiness/hatred aimed at cyclists that motorists DO NOT get aimed at them, these 2 twits, despite mainly putting themselves & pedestrians in danger, get remembered for all the wrong reasons, meaning due to their stupidity some other poor sod will cop for a load of hassle from some goon who can't seperate those two from some other cyclist doing nothing wrong, & minding their own business

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
He's a wannabe.
Alleycat racers have been doing this sort of riding for years and is usually done through slow moving traffic. There's a few I've seen risking their necks in normal paced traffic and despite them being complete tossers, I do have some respect for their cycling skill.
This clown though....I'd love to see him try that in normal paced traffic. He'd be dead in 5 mins.

People do seem to like to put other people into little boxes and then judge them

so "all cyclists"

in the same way all BMW drivers are reckless - or Audi or whatever

and now all Tesla driver are fascists - when most of them might well have bought their car a few years ago before Elon started his trump stuff and the brand looked very green and eco and left wing

but there does seem to be a tendency for people to want to have a neat and tidy box to put people in so they can stick a label on it based on minimal evidence
