No wonder the Scots want out

I've just listened to Michael Portillo on BBC programme hosted by Andrew Neil - now, before I add anything further, I want to clarify 2 things:
1. I am a Yes voter
2 . I have warmed to Portillo in his non-politico role over the years, to the extent that I thought he was an ok bloke

so, moving on:
1. I am still a Yes voter
2. he's a w*****

Just heard on This Week that of the six men in Cameron's core team put together to prepare the manifesto for the next election - in other words, the inner inner cabinet - five are old Etonians. What a country we live in....

I was watching a thing about the South Sudan Football team earlier, and I seem to have Africa on the brain currently as I misread 'Cameron' for 'Cameroon'.

Needless to say I had to read your post twice!!:laugh:

Hah! I was reading a cookbook and seem to have food on the brain as I misread Macaroon for Cameroon.

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
We don't all want out.
I would rather have old Etonians at the helm than a clown like Salmond.
I am a fiercely patriotic Scot, but until that moron can tell me what his plans are for the future of our struggling nation, then I will be voting for the status quo. He is strangely silent on a host of issues.

What's with the reverse snobbery? The class war-fare? So what where people were educated? It only matters how good a job they are doing. Reverse that anti-Eton sentiment and apply it to your local comprehensive: can you imagine anyone saying "5 of the cabinet committee are from (yah-booh-sucks) the local comprehensive. What sort of country are we living in"? Why would it make the slightest difference?

The fact is, Eton offers one of the best educations available anywhere in the world. I want to be governed by people who have got a clue, and I don't care if their education was at Eton or in Timbuctoo (which as an interesting aside, used to offer the best education in the world 1000+ years ago).

You didn't mention any of the women in Cameron's core team.

Isn't that more significant than the schooling issue?

Absolutely. It's all about networking these days and that means getting in with the right set at the beginning. It's no use thinking you can join in after getting an education at Scunthorpe Grammar because, let's be honest, you'll talk in a funny accent and eat mushy peas. And as for sounding Scottish.. OMG..
