Some polls have Scottish independence being more popular in England than it is in Scotland...which falls somewhere between interesting and amusing.

She f'ed the unions, wherever they were, not just Scotland. They needed f'ed because they were holding the country to ransom and were strangling British industry.
Thank them for the fact that no-one wanted to buy British ships, or cars, or coal, or anything else. Thank them for the fact that we have no industry and no jobs.

You must be right - just look at how British mass production recovered after the unions had been neutered. Oh, wait.

No wonder with the attitude of some Scots! People really need to get a grip and move on...

The rest of the world had moved on while we stood watching. Too late to catch up with the car industry in Japan, the shipbuilding industry of Korea and Japan, and now the general tat from China.

We've had about thirty five years. Has it ever occurred to you that the decline of UK industry might be due to slightly more complicated factors than unions being powerful? You may wish to consider that in Germany, unions have a right by law to participate in the management of all large companies.

Yes, it had occurred to me that there may have been other factors involved, thanks.

So when you said "Thank them for the fact that no-one wanted to buy British ships, or cars, or coal, or anything else." you didn't really mean it. Ok.

If you weren't looking for a political debate, then perhaps explicit Thatcherite propaganda wasn't the best way to go.

If you wish to carry on blaming the unions, do carry on, but it conflicts with what you've already accepted to be true.

Not sad.
I witnessed the ruination of a country, our country's confidence but we grew stronger and that is why there is a strong Nationalist presence today.she beat the unions( a good point) then took it out on the Scots...the 14% mortgage rates, the greed is good culture she introduced.
It has been proven and well documented..
It wasn't just my country, anything north of Watford got shagged....esp if Labour represented..
The Proclaimers song containing these words "Bathgate no more. Linwood no more. Methil no more. Irvine no more..." is it in a nutshell.

And you still can't move on thirty years later? Yes I'd say that's sad. Look forwards instead of back, it's worth it.

Let's agree to disagree..
It will take a long time...
My wife's great- great-great grandparents were uprooted in the Clearances and if you think I'm bitter....
I know folk on the Isle of Lewis with longer bitter memories than me...
