One I knew with an RD350LC had the side panels from a 250 fitted instead. He got nicked when a bike aware traffic cop knew that the bigger model had twin front discs and the 250 didn't.

That's the cheap 250 - 350 conversion. :okay:

The stealth conversion was to fit the barrels, pistons and oil pump from the 350 or to fit a 350 engine. Only the eagle-eyed would spot that the capacity of the engine wasn't what the side panels declared by the capacity being cast into the base of the cylinders.

A jewellers file and a blow of PJ 1 takes care of the capacity embossed on the cylinders. At least it did when a 175 top end accidentally fell on to my DT125MX.

BTW - this was not an exercise in tuning, but one of trying to keep the bike on the road without spending any money when the 125 piston holed itself.

it's a bit like asking " why do mountaineer climb mountains" the stock answer seems to be "because it's there".
I tend to think the "boy racers" buy a car in the knowledge that it is "upgradeable" then they set about throwing buckets full of money at it to potentially make it faster than a 2ltr focus for arguments sake. This is all fine but they should pursue their chosen hobby at track days not tearing around housing estates.

I'm more worried about electric hybrids. You can't hear the bastards at under 30mph. I'm bound to pull out of the left hand side of my lane riding uphill to turn right, straight into the path of one that I haven't heard.

(Yes, I know I have eyes too).

I was on an electric hybrid double decker bus the other day, the sensation of pootling along in that with it making no noise at all was bizarre.

Mr's Vernon's Allegro Vanden Plas performed faultlessly for her three years of ownership apart from the points burning out once.

It was tragically bad, but heroic ally quick for 40 years ago when it was new. By the time I got it the poor thing was far from New, but could still annoy XR 2s.

A V-twin needs to be heard and not seen. And preferably heard through something by Conti or Lafranconi.

My late f-I-l used to make me wheel both my Le Mans and, for that matter, my Jota around the corner and out of his close before starting either.

There was a youthful entrepreneur who had a Rolls Royce with an insanely powerful sound system. He got fed up with the police pulling him over, He got double glazing fitted.

The squidgy rubber things in the rear suspension failed on my VDP Allagro and it failed its MoT spectacularly.

See, when I was 17 I wanted to go fast, but being poor didn't help. Instead of buying a 1 litre Chevette and wasting time and money tuning it I bought a much faster Allegro 1750HL. .
iirc a Marina TC was quite a bit faster than its MGB and MGB GT siblings...
