Taking the biscuit
Never match anyone a pint of brand name cola to their beer as you'll get almost as buzzed but end up wide awake when they finally drop off to sleep.

I like tonic water best and plain water with food but the new style of drinking establishment often serve coffee or tea so I'm generally happy with a cuppa.

Is this a serious thread, FF? Or are you just after weird and/or flippant suggestions? (which have been pouring in a-plenty:biggrin:)

Seriously, use your imagination. Try everything once, but don't force yourself to continue imbibing stuff not to your taste. Wait till you hit on something that suits.

If you want my preferences, which may be of no particular value to you, they're fruit juice (various sorts), tea and coffee. Rarely do I venture further. I do drink a bit of alcohol, but on rare occasions, and insignificantly.

Oh well, you'd like a suggestion? Perhaps I could offer one which we sometimes treat ourselves to on a special occasion, if alcohol doesn't suit. Try lassi (most Asian shops: comes in various flavours, we go for the fruity types). A perfect accompaniment to curry (which wine or beer - or water - are not). Oddly enough, I don't care for yoghurt much, but lassi although yoghurt-based is different. Love it!

I think a bullshot hits the spot bigtime...

Tomato juice
Beef consome (this is important!)
Lee and Perrins
Pepper
Salt
Celery salt
Horseradish sauce (also important)

Add all the rest of the salty stuff, drink it, have a half pint of tap water, and then repeat.

All the salt will not be good for you, but if you are on a serious mission, this drink hits the buttons.

Good luck, and a Very Happy New Year

Good thread - thanks. Not sure about the Bullshot though. It sounds like drinking a liquidised steak pie.

Waaaaaait a minute. That sounds pretty good.

You could put chopped coriander in the Bullshot but it'd take longer to make than drink. I thought beef consome was soup

Sounds good though.

The grapefruit & tonic does sound interesting. My usual choice when not drinking alcohol is one I got years ago from a Prof at university: orange juice & ginger beer/ale.

Cheers,
Darren

Grapefruit's great, but it's the only thing my medication prevents me from having...
It's the Statins or Beta-blockers, can't remember which.

I doubt I will drink at all this year, hardly had any last year.

My usual choices:
J2O, but it is sickly sweet so two would be my limit.
Orange and pineapple juice with a bit of fizzy water is good.
Very dilute cordials.
Tea or coffee.
Tap water with a slice of lemon.

Sometimes there are interesting things made from elderflower and passion fruit and other odd mixes.

Orange squash, blackcurrant squash, apple & blackcurrant squash (are you spotting a pattern?).

I can drink pints of the stuff (in fact I do).

I love fizzy water too, but my favourite one is canned perrier, and it's hard to find in the supermarkets. I love the fact that it's soooo fizzy that if you drink it faster than you can burp you feel like your eyes may be forced out of your head. Simple pleasures, I know

Beef consome (sorry, I just can't do the French acute accent when typing) is a thin, brown, stock-like stuff that you can buy in tins at the supermarket... if you are lucky.

An essential ingredient.

Do not leave home without it....
