Welcome to the area to both of you:welcome: . There were lots of cyclists on the A38 today - I wondered if there was an event on (or just a sunny day bringing them all out!).

I was at the Garden Centre near (ish) Charfield today.

I think there was an Evans Ride It Sportive on yesterday, I wasn't riding the sportive but I did ride through Wickwar and Charfield yesterday before heading back to Bristol.

Welcome to the area !

I live in Winterbourne and last Saturday took a nice ride through Charfield to North Nibley and back. A nice ride into Filton for you from there, I think. Do you join the A38 and head south ?
It's Mr Spinney who will be commuting. We haven't moved in properly yet - I've got a quiet patch at work (I'm freelance), so I'm getting a lot of decorating done before we have to move our furniture in.

When we do get moved in properly, I think MrS intends to go up the A38 as far as the Tytherington turnoff, through Tytherington and then join the B road that goes north through Bibstone to Charfield.

We looked at a few houses in the Winterbourne area, but MrS decided it was a bit too close to work and he wouldn't get enough exercise!

Charfield is lovely. I ride from Winterbourne up through Cromhall & Bagstone, turn left to Tytherington, cross to the A38 then drop down to Bradley Stoke... so you could have lived here after all and chosen a longer route !!

I had to drop my daughter off to Tytherington Village hall recently by bike as Mr Summerdays needed to have the car elsewhere (and we discovered the traffic lights on the A38 were pegasus ones - I think the first time I've ever noticed one of those crossings). We were going past the quarry when a pheasant ran across the road and she was worried it might attack her. That's when I realised I've raised a townie:ohmy:. There were some lovely flowering cherries on the way into Tytherington.

On Sunday I cycled from winterbourne up to the motorway junction near Leyhill, and back past Thornbury on the A38 to Bradley Stoke. A nice 24 miler but the wind was into the face on the A38, quite hard work.

Nice to see there are other cyclists in Winterbourne!!

Two of my targets for this year, once I've finished decorating and got a little fitter:
- do the Avon cycleway (right name? the one that goes right around Bristol)
- cycle over the Severn Bridge and back via the next bridge up-river (somewhere near Gloucester, I think).

We looked at a couple of houses in Tytherington, but I love sitting in the garden when it was sunny, and the noise of the motorway was very noticeable. Shame, as it's got a lovely village green/church/pub etc.

My electrician was telling me he did the loop up over the Severn Bridge and back recently on an old bike he has just done up. (I have to admit to being a lazy cyclist who hasn't done either ).
