As always, the camera made it look far more impressive than it was to the eye.
There was some light cloud about which produced some interesting sights - I assume these are reflections off the cloud as this photo was actually taken facing South.Seeing that bright green on the horizon makes me realise that I saw it one morning. I was still partially asleep so it didn't register. In the sleepy state I was in I just thought it was the after glow from the sun. At the time I thought it was a bit odd at 3 in the morning!
I had to wait well over 50 years for that rare combination of the right solar weather, terrestrial weather, and moon position/phase.I got out earlier thanks to the alerts and a reasonably clear sky. Aurora faint but visible - a greyish haze in the sky. But the camera on my phone saw it better. Albeit it wasn't brilliant, but it's better than nowt.

And with a reading of 850nT, there should be something visible any moment. Maybe the back of my eyelids!

For me, that was 10th October 2024. I'll be well over 100 before I'm due another sighting!
