As always, the camera made it look far more impressive than it was to the eye.

Seeing that bright green on the horizon makes me realise that I saw it one morning. I was still partially asleep so it didn't register. In the sleepy state I was in I just thought it was the after glow from the sun. At the time I thought it was a bit odd at 3 in the morning!
There was some light cloud about which produced some interesting sights - I assume these are reflections off the cloud as this photo was actually taken facing South.

More high readings in the Aurora forecast tonight.
Couldn't see anything at home after work, but it's my Mum's birthday so I figured once I got to their place I'd be further away from the lights & glare of London. Nope - couldn't see anything from their drive.

Drove home a rather scenic route over the Greensand Ridge and the North Downs. Had some excellent vantage points, but needing the wipers on full was the clue that viewing conditions were again sub-optimal!

I got out earlier thanks to the alerts and a reasonably clear sky. Aurora faint but visible - a greyish haze in the sky. But the camera on my phone saw it better. Albeit it wasn't brilliant, but it's better than nowt.
I had to wait well over 50 years for that rare combination of the right solar weather, terrestrial weather, and moon position/phase.
For me, that was 10th October 2024. I'll be well over 100 before I'm due another sighting!

Sky's clearing. I can see a few stars!
And with a reading of 850nT, there should be something visible any moment. Maybe the back of my eyelids!

I never thought in my lifetime it would ever be something Id see from my back garden. and its now almost becoming regular, though its still not as easy as it always looks. I got all the alerts Monday night, went out a couple of times, saw absolutely nothing but a fair bit of cloud cover, seems I just happened to pick the moments in between when nothing was happening.
