There was a program about ska/Northern soul etc on BBC3 a few Friday evenings ago. Can't really remember too much about as I'd have a few glasses of red wine by the time it was on;)

I tell a lie - it was on BBC4. They're having a Pink Floyd night tomorrow from 9pm. Now where did I leave that tie-died kaftan?

Perhaps the north of the USA?

I thought it was called northern soul because the Lancashire lads and lasses stayed in love with soul while the south donned wizard gowns and went all prog rock.

I got into Northern soul as a result of seeing a Granada documentary in the 70's about Wigan Casino. It made quite an impressin. The other day searching You-tube I found the whole show there and watched it, after 30 years it all came flooding back. To a 7 or 8 year old kid growing up in parochial Devon, Wigan, the industrial North was another world with a whole different soundtrack. That soundtrack stayed in my head until about 7 years ago when I bopught my first Northern Soul CD and I was forever hooked. Even went to Manchester for a NS night hosted by an original Casino DJ... great fun, but impossible to dance to!
