What you seem to be misunderstanding is the "the finer things in life" are not flash cars and big houses, but the simple pleasures like spending time with loved ones, riding your bicycle and taking your dog for a long walk in the countryside.
These are things that don't need to be expensive, they can be achieved and enjoyed on a quite modest income.
Spend some time thinking about what really makes you happy, imagine yourself on your death bed in 70 years time, will you be thinking "I wish I'd spent more time in the office and climbed further up the greasy pole"?
Happiness comes not from getting what you want, but from learning to want the things you've got.
