No girlfriends!

Girlfriends don't come with the same attachmentts as a wife. I also said 'more' compromises.

try joining a cycling club misstillyflop; you'll find the girls are pretty much in the minority and at least you'll have something in common with the chaps…

Good advice, but I randomly happened upon the the perfect partner (My very own Jarvis Cocker/Brian Cox hybrid - although he is better looking than both of them!) and he thinks I'm ok too - but the point was that I had stopped looking and I think if you're not looking for /expecting something, that's when the good stuff happens!

I've been single for 9 years now.. the first seven were great, my own life to myself..but now i'm getting a bit bored.

After each relationship has ended I've had a year off in order to avoid an ill thought out rebound relationship, but nine years later is stretching it a bit.

in my neck of the woods all the single women in my age group are positively bonkers

Admission time.. I am married but agree that a single lifestyle can be also rewarding
I know I am supposed to be totally thankful for marriage etc .. but I am somewhere in between that and wishing I was single. No doubt I will be considered a terrible person but thats the honest truth

I've never been a meber of a club, but I have a great many cycling friends and tenf to find that the ones I'd be interested in are already taken. The rest are often single for a reason...

Personally, I've had long stretches of my life when I've been single, and it's been ok and some when I've been single and unhappy about it. I've never really been into dating, I've met guys just through life.

And internet forums....

Judging by the miles covered on a bike by some on this forum I presumed they were all single

I've been on my own for the last 22 years as I had an accident and wife buggered off, I'm alone but never lonely, the only time I feel left out is at wedding, party’s and functions, just like the spare prick at a wedding so I try to avoid these advents. As I don't work I can go for days without talking to anyone and sometimes you have a story to tell and you have no one to tell it to.

I don't 'need' a relationship and can be quite happy being celibate for years at a time.
However, I also like being in the relationship I am in now and I think that is where the difference comes in. I like being there but I don't need to be.

Better to be single for the right reasons then with someone for the wrong reasons.
