I suspect your weighing machine is playing tricks on you.
Wheels weight is normally quoted without tyres and tubes - I think the Mavic Aksium is quoted with tyres and tubes because they are sold as a complete package.

I just lent next doors digital weigh scales to compare .
Both wheels together, without tyres, inners and cassette weighs 1680gms

That sounds about right. It's difficult to know exactly the weight with kitchen scales but we get a good idea of the weight. When the margin is too big, like you were saying 1700g with tyres and tubes then you can spot the error. The wheels I just built come on at 1667g but that could be a few grams either way. I had calculated a few grams more by adding the components weight.
Your rims are a bit heavier than mine but you have fewer spokes, although we use the same hubs, spokes and nipples so I knew that both sets of wheels weight could not be too far apart.
The great thing is you and I are enjoying our wheels and that's all that matters. I like the look of your wheels and I will build myself a set (although, at my weight I cannot go 24 spokes on the rear wheel and that makes the wheel look a bit different) and get rid off the logos at some point. As you said, Van Nicholas logos are not the nicest

I managed to get David, a nice chap, from DCR Wheels on the phone today and he has recommended Classic Nova Tec Hubs with the H Plus Son - TB14 Rims so I am going for those will report back when they are done.

I need to clean the bike and give it a quick service before they go on but I will post a picture with them on.
They are very light I couldn't believe how light they felt when I took them out of the box.

For comparison, I had the following built for £250: Mavic Open Pro CD rims 32 spoke, Ambrosio hubs (same as novatec I think) DT revolution spokes and alloy nipples. They come to a smidge under 1600 grammes, which is very good for such a robust wheelset, at this price. I sourced all the parts myself and had them built for £50. Two years on, they're running perfectly true despite plenty of use.

Good post User482. I have just built a rear wheel with a 32-hole Ambrisio hub with DT Swiss db spokes but haven't ridden it yet. The hub cost about £60 from Spa and weighed about 260g. You can get lighter hubs than that but they are a heck of a lot more. If this wheel works out okay I will invest in more as Shimano Tiagra hubs are great but not light!

DCR built my wheels too - but i went for the Velocity A23 rims as they are slightly wider rims at 23mm and the tyre sits more square into the rim for a supposedly tub like ride

Look great..
However, line up the tyre decals to the tube valve.
Will make it easier to find any puncture.

Had my first ride on them and I like them.
I have had Shimano R501's on my bike the the last couple of weeks and if I compare them the new wheels are much more stable and less flexing and a damn comfy ride, of course they should be as they cost nearly 5 times as much
