Some of these can be fairly horrific, but I quite like this:

Westjet is Canadian by the way.

I agree, but they have enough problems with ice on the wings as it is, never mind an extra layer of paint! :giggle:

Apparently, so the story goes, a lot of airlines these days prefer not to use more paint than they need for planes as the paint adds extra weight, which means they need extra fuel, ergo it pollutes more and is more expensive to run. Its also why most liveries are based on white apparently. The 'Plain Jane' look is in currently.

I personally don't know how much extra weight it would add, but it surely can't be a massive difference to what they already use unless its on something large like a '747/A380, etc.

Hadn't considered the weight implication. A quick hunt around some aviation forums suggests the weight at around 1200lbs for a 747, though leaving it paint free means you end up spending money on anti-corrosives anyway.

The way they've painted that Disney one suggests they've been quite careful with the amount/weight of paint involved.

The old Ndizani too:

http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=204559&nseq=2

There are loads of them out there, but more so in the past.
Other famous ones were the Aboriginal art 'Dreaming' liveries by Qantas, Singapore's 'Tropical' livery (2 '747s were painted and one crashed, making it a slightly infamous livery http://www.airliners.net/photo/Sing...36701/M/&sid=c19b2980cfb484a302337a3d57edcefc), both the Japanese ANA and JAL have had quite a few special liveries as have a few of the Chinese airlines, Thai Airways had their 'Royal Barge' livery, Gulf Air have some, most notably their F1 livery, and closer to home, Ryanair have done quite a few advertising liveries in their time too.

KLM still have the very best livery of all however, and it isn't even anything special!
