I know where that is ... cross the bridge ... keep going for a few miles, turn a couple of times and that's where my parents live ... though in 1962/3 they were still in Northern Ireland and Dad tells of 6 ft of snow on the farm.
I wonder if because it's SO cold, and the ice is so pure, the combined heat from his tyre and the cold from the ice makes it 'sticky', like the old tounge on a frozen lampost skit?
