I'll tell you what is a real Faux Pas, wearing dark coloured pants under something white and slightly seethrough.

At least the man is trying to do some exercise!!!!! I always have a word of encouragement for people that are finding it difficult because of their size, I find those people admirable. It would be very easy for them not to try at all.

To come her and make fun of that is just wrong. I wonder if any of us would try cycling if it was so much harder because of the weight we carry.

Aye. We knew this rather fetching student nurse who discovered that a certain type of man was partial to the black suspender-belt, knickers, stockings combo and so actually worse such an ensemble UNDER her white, fairly transparent student-nurses dress! Even for us young, impressionable men, it looked too much and the word from me was to un-encourage her from such a faux-pas in the future. My comments were heeded by her but I was roundly condemned by some of my fellow workers for doing so, two of whom were consultant surgeons and wanted repeated sights of this. They reckoned it actually helped he male patients feel better and recover quicker!

When my middle son was born I contracted MRSA in hospital, I was really ill, couldn't excercise, I then had my 3rd son & gained more weight, I went up to 22stone, size 24 clothes!
That's when I rediscovered cycling, I used to go out even if for only 10 minutes round the block, huffing & puffing my way along, grannys with zimmers underaking me on the pavement, I almost quit a dozen times over as there is a park on the first corner I used to pass & some of the shouts, commnets & abuse I got from the local 'chavs' that hung out on it reduced me to tears.
But i didn't quit, in fcat if anyhting it spurned me on - my bubs got a bit older & I bought a trailer to tow them round in, eventaully I lost a bit of weight, then a bit more until I was down to 18 stone & finaly felt confident enough to wear some real cycling clothes. I'm now around the 15 stone mark I still feel really concious in Lycra, i'm convinced my bum looks massive But can now blame some of it on the padding!
All I can say is good on that chap for getting out & doing some excercise... (but personaly I hid under mnay baggy layers till I was a bit slimmer!)

Well done, and keep it up!

I'm still overweight and self-conscious about it. It's not so bad in winter when you need lots of layers anyway, but I'm going to be over-dressed on warmer rides unless I get more weight off soon.

I saw a lycra faux pas recently that had me feeling quite ill.

Out on a club run we pass a guy on a Bianchi, not to be out down he puts a bit of effort in and slots into our group right in front of me.
Anyway this guys arse is starring me in the face, nothing unusual you may think. Well his shorts were so worn you could see right through them, not a pretty sight I can assure you.

Mind when I got home I made Mrs AT check all my shorts while I bent over in front of her!

Some time back on the club run, one of the ladies had a similar problem. We all noticed and then had the discussion in the cafe queue as to who was going to inform her that it was time for her to get new shorts.

...dropping hints like "Hmm, nice buns... but a bit too obvious... they need some kind of cover..." etc
