Physically felt sick after reading RoadCC article! RIP

So soon after Gary Mason, too. Terrible.

Millions of people cycle. Only a handful get killed. But each one leaves a devastating gap.

Road.cc are reporting a girl who was hit by a tanker 18months ago has just died from her injuries. Driver, who was sentenced prior to her death, gave the excuse of not checking his mirrors - £340 and five points.

Horrific.

And while I was at road.cc, I came across this.

What is salient is that the judiciary evidently think that an individual who kills a cyclist through negligence, while - by his own admission, rushing to catch a plane - exhibits merely carelessness, rather than dangerousness. I'm not sure the word "dangerous" has any meaning any more, judging by these cases.

(Also note that this a driver with two previous convictions for speeding, and one for careless driving, who then, having killed someone, went on to rack up two further speeding offences. Incredible.)

That's beyond parody. I know I don't need to say it, but there's something wrong.

Just read that Roadcc article myself, very very sad, already this year there has been how many ? 5 ?

:-(

I *hope* that its no more than previous years and we're just seeing more coverage in the press. If that's true and it helps to raise awareness then that could be a good thing.

I honestly don't remember many of the cyclist deaths that went past me last year, but it seems this year we have lost some great people in a short space of time and their stories have made it into the headlines.

It does make you stop and think when you read their life stories.

Since about 100 cyclists died last year, the worst months being May and October, it doesn't look like it will be a good year this year, hopefully I am completely wrong.
