This is sort of commuting, as I was walking into the department...

First, I heard a squeal of brakes and sliding-on-damp-tarmac bike tyre and two lady tourists apologising profusely to the cyclist who'd just had to skid to a halt when they stepped into the road. Pity really, I'd have given him an earful if it had been me, since he was a) riding the wrong way down a one way street, riding down it at a time when it is closed to vehicles, and open to peds only and c) riding too fast for the level of pedestrian traffic anyway.

Secondly, a chap rode out of a side turning into another pedestrian-only street, swerved around a couple of people, pulled up outside a shop, leant his bike againt the wall and went in, without locking it! As I wandered past, I looked and he was right inside the shop, out of sight. If I'd been so minded (and a bit taller), I could have ridden that bike away no trouble.

And neither of these were chavy yoofs - both were middle aged chaps in cycling gear on hybrids - the guy who left his bike also left attached to it (and on) a pair of Knog backup LEDs...

Rant over....

I wouldn't have nicked his bike, but I'd have been tempted to move it, or turn it around, or something.

Mags! I'm appalled.

Ummm, I meant to put some air into their tyres to help them avoid punctures. Just imagine if they had a puncture as they tried to swerved out of the way of a pedestrian. It could be a disaster.

Good save I believe!

I did that to a mate I nicked his bike from outside the corner shop but when he knocked at my door in a panic I couldn't keep a straight face and burst out laughing.

I'm guilty of this!

I often risk leaving my bike outside and nipping into a shop! One day I will come unstuck I know!:welcome:

I have had bikes nicked in the past - only ever when they have been locked up though!

Not locking your bike up maybe an ingenious ploy!

People see something not locked and think:
a) its a piece of crap
:welcome: its a setup

so they will not touch your property.

Chain up a piece of crap and it will get nicked with 5 seconds!
