Numpty Q - London Oyster Card

Wifey is in London for just 3 days tomorrow - can she just buy an Oyster Card when she arrives or does it need a photogragh and some form filling ?

Yes, but it's better to get a PAYG one in advance as sometimes there are big queues at mainline stations. You can get one online and they'll post it to you. Not an option for tomorrow though!

The ques are throughly depentend on the time of day your going. If you are there wanting one at rush hour, then of course there is going to be a que.

If she is down for 3 days, she might be better off getting a paper 3 day travel card. No need to pay the £3 and I think you can get those out of the machines
£18.40 for Zones 1-2 and no time restrictions.

She can also buy an oyster card from some newsagents and put sufficient fare money on it, but as said before, you do need to factor in the £3 charge. Oyster is a lot cheaper than normal tickets though (my ticket is £5.00 but on Oyster it's £2.20 before 7am and £3.80 after, so in 3 days even the later journey would save me more).

Many stations especially the national rail ones have a blue oyster vending machine located near the ticket machines. They cost £5 (you will need change) and include the £3 deposit and £2 PAYG.
