I might go to my local pub for a few pints but that's about it. I can't understand why people go to those massive firework displays in the big cities. Not only are you crammed in like sardines in a tin but i learnt the other day that the London and Edinburgh ones are sold out, meaning that you actually have to pay to watch them!![]()

Why not? Most other major world cities have them. I don't think money is raised per se, I think an attempt is made to cover the crazy costs of a major world class display, provide free transport all night (I'm sure the RMT don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts) and cover the inevitable policing that is needed in the cityWhy have fireworks at all? In London I think it's just a. an attempt to raise some money now and b. an attempt to stop the alcoholic thuggery that used to occur when everyone was eventually turfed out of Trafalgar Sq,
