I have decided not to have those yukky plane meals and want to take sandwiches and water from home, will I be allowed that in my hand luggage or will it be confiscated?

liquid over a 100ml can't be carried. They force me to empty my water bottle, then on board they try to sell me a bottle of water what a scam.

Edit: I don't know about food but that's probably not allowed too.

You should be OK with sarnies!

Take an empty plastic bottle (any size) through with you, and fill it up in the toilet (from the baisin tap, of course). The water is as good as any over-priced stuff.

Your own food's ok on Ryanair. I took sarnies thru security at East Mids without any queries. The 100ml rule is definitely enforced.

but they cost £12! even at airport prices that's steep for not much. Mind you I suppose in the scheme of things it's quite a small cost. Anyway boys now have ham and cheese rolls, jaffa cakes and mega pile of applies to munch on with nothing to wash it down with! did think about taking 100mls water but thought it might not be worth it. Surely rolls can be exploded as easily as liquids?

My Mum is diabetic so when we went to Berlin in February she took some sandwiches and chocolate for the flight. Nobody said anything. That was flying from Stansted.

I like the picture, exploding sandwiches! ;0)

If the 100ml of water is in a 250ml plastic bottle they'll still take it off you, just so that you know.

Once you're through customs you can buy as much water as you like from the shops and take it on board the plane.

So if I was a terrorist with a bit of imagination I would arrange for a pal to smuggle a case with a couple of bottles of explosive through the back door then pick them up at my leisure once past Security.

Airport security is only there to make the passengers feel better.

Oh, and to generate revenue for the airside shops of course....

There are many airports (not in the UK) where the security check is after the shops, and they can sometimes take the water off you there.

But in general when flying back to the UK no one bothers checking anything, it's only when you leave the UK that they bother - stupid if you ask me!

If there's an M and S food place in the airport their water is quite cheap.

Or take an empty bottle in your bag and fill it up at the water fountain (if there is one) in the loo.

The no-liquids rule is the biggest scam of all these anti 'terrorist' rules IMO - and it's got some stiff competition - you have to look at who benefits from this rule - is it me? No. Is it Mr. Evian and Mr. Vittel?? Ohhhhhhh yes....I reckon they sponsored the whole thing. You have to follow the money.....

Like you say, why is water more of a danger than sandwiches? Plastic explosive in a bun is surely just as likely as a baby milk bomb, or whatever it was supposed to be.

When we came back from Mexico, two years ago (so, I know, not exactly current), they had a security check actually at the gate, and were searching everyone until the queue got too long, then they started to just search at random. I saw a woman have toiletries confiscated, while 2 guys in comedy sombreros walked past with 2 litre water bottles....

Unless it's some mickey mouse airline, getting a drink of water on the plane is never a problem in my experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
