I think I mentioned them years ago and wasn't impressed.
However they sent a flier, 7 meals for £20.00.....special offer.
Ordered at 4 yesterday and they delivered at 09.30 today.
I will report back.

SWMBO has included these companies as part of her work as a Dietitian in the older people's nutrition area - she helped write the current guidelines.

Wiltshire Farm Foods / Apetito / Parsley Box are similar but my father, who never learnt to cook, prefers Cook frozen meals which he's moved to since my mum died in late 2023.

Wiltshire are good, I used to buy them every week for my wife's auntie. However they got so expensive. I could nip to the local pub and get a meal cheaper than them.

That sounds ridiculous!!!

It should at least be a reasonable price
how does it compare to Tesco and the like??

The Oakhouse bangers & mash is £4.89 for 509kcals. Using the products I buy from Tesco, the same meal, same calories, is 66p, that's 7.4 times the price for the 'convenience' of using a microwave instead of pans on the hob.

As I said, I bought these 7 meals on special offer @ £20.
They included their brochures.
I have just opened the one called Winter etc.
1st page..... beef casserole £7.50
What average person can afford that ???
Over 50 quid per week for one meal a day. Crazy.
I will (I hope) enjoy my cheap deal but that will be it.

It would be cheaper to get the frozen stuff from Tesco etc

Good morning,

There seems to be a lot managers to pay.

Then a delivery driver for 10-20 minutes per order, by the time the customer has had a chat etc and the driver has got from one customer to next.

And once you see "As seen on TV" you know there is a huge cost to be recouped, but looking at these images and noting that target market some of the meals look big enough for two meals.

Yet if you look at the difference in price between the full size and mini meals, the price really screams out how little the cost of the food is.

....... I am tempted to try the £20 offer, given the size of the meals all 7 would make a good one days worth of food!

Bye

Ian

Have you factored in the energy costs for cooking and your time and effort, Tesco is still probably cheaper but the price is going to be more than 66p.
The delivery costs alone must be a big factor in the price of The Oakhouse stuff.
The brother in law has just took up the offer, I don't know if he will continue after the seven initial meals, but he is not in the best of health, so prepared delivered meals suit him.

But that's rather my point, you're paying for a load of stuff you don't need to. Electricity is about 10-12p, but my time costs nothing whether I stand cooking a meal or sit here and wait for it to be delivered. Even getting food from Tesco delivered is only £3-£4 for a whole load, not per meal.

If you are going down the ready meal route, I'd stick to the supermarkets - they are OK - we usually get them in for our adult kids when we are away. 'The Best' ranges are very nice indeed and below £5 usually.

If I paid Oakhouse prices for every evening meal my annual food bill would go up from £1300 to £4800.

That has been my thought every time I have seen the adverts
I go off and look at the prices and compare it to Tesco (etc) and it doesn;t make any sense
unless you are simply trying to make money out of old vulnerable people

Sorry if I ask Dave, but can the family not batch cook some extra dinners whilst they do their meals and freeze a dinner for you. I do it, so there is a full dinner frozen for lunches or the adult kids to grab. Drives my colleagues mad when I rock up with a Sunday roast in the microwave mid week. Just big enough for lunch.
