Obama visit to Athens

Apparently President Obama is in town today.

Luckily Mrs SG and I had taken in the sites to the south of us yesterday as it was all closed off today for security, as were a number of metro stations for a while.

First we got an inkling something was happening was around 7am when several hundred people turned up near out hotel chanting slogans. Unsure what the protests are about I.e the USA or their own government. It's all Greek to me

Now just after 5pm and they are back in much larger numbers. All peaceful so far but sounds like it'll be a noisy evening at least.

Are they protesting at Obama, or just warming up for the reception they will give Trump if he ever discovers where Greece is ?

Seems from the news that protesters are clashing with police to the south of where we are. Police with riot shields and gas masks passed us on the way back from a restaurant.
