Removed chainset to clean thoroughly, replaced and now when I go out for a spin the chainset is loosening after 2-3 miles and I have to stop and re-tighten.Any ideas?

Octalink chainsets do up pretty tight - something like 50-70nm. Are you sure you've tightened it sufficiently?

Thought I had tightened sufficiently but will have another go next time I'm out, monsoon conditions in the west of Scotland at the moment!
Thanks

Loch side.
You only have/had once chance. It is a blind aluminium tapered spline on the crank and a steel spline on the axle. Once it has worked loose and was still pedaled whilst loose, chances are that it is ruined. Let's hope that isn't the case with yours.

Nevertheless, Octalink is rubbish, if it is ruined, replaced with square taper.

Re-tightening didn't solve the problem, however I removed chainset and noticed that the black spacer? on the end of the rings wasn't sitting properly, put it back in place and after a short ride this morning all seems well. Hopefully no damage done!

….Keep an eye on it, evidently they're prone to coming loose.
