I am guessing the "cock" is referring to a crowing cock bird in the morning so I am going with a breakfast cerial (but then that may be confusing with Kelloggs).

You tend to accept a name that you know. I guess 7 o'clock cock was not even thought of in a rude way - like Cock a leekie soup.
