The Archers, on air since 1951, uses a theme tune that's even older - Barwick Green, a maypole dance taken from a suite called My Native Heath, written in 1924 by Yorkshireman Arthur Wood.

I regularly ride past that very maypole in Barwick - in fact, I did today.

And heres a rubbish photo of it:

Barwick Green is the colour fans of the Archers use for their t shirts.
 
“Barwick Green”, theme to the Archers, inspired the track “Sugar, Sugar” by fictional 60s band “The Archies”.

Someone from the Archers is on a recording used to accompany a book wot I wrote, but I have no idea who/which character :smile:
