Yorkshire is in fact a district of Hawaii. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour in 1941 they were surprised at meeting such little resistance. This is because half the forces had gone to brew up, and the other half had been given the day off to watch the whippet racing as a christmas treat.

The USS Phoenix was berthed in Yorkshire at the time and somehow survived the attack. Following the war it was sold the Argentina, renamed General Belgrano, and sunk by a submarine from Blackpool in the war with Argentina following the invasion of the Lancashire islands by Yorkshire forces.

City comes from the the Latin Shittiaromas. It translates as shoot smells, and reflects the tradition in the Middle Ages of throwing your bucket of shoot out the window each morning. It’s derived from an ancient Roman battle technique used to overwhelm enemies.

City (orig. Sittee) actually has the same root as settee, both referring to people sitting on their fat arses. In the former case from country dwellers who couldn't believe how these sedentary city dwellers got all the dosh despite spending so much time on their posteriors.

Compost takes its name from the sheet emnating from the CONservative governments POSTERIOR. However, it is highly toxic and should only be used on crops grown in labour constituencies.

Countryfile was originally presented by a 1970's DJ, when it was known as Countryphile. When the scandal broke John Craven, the only virgin in the UK, was brought in to rehabilitate the show.

Phile on Four was radio 4's attempt to emulate Radio 1's abuse of the underaged. Happily, the earnest, corduroy wearing presenters weren't up to the devious ways of their popular music contemporaries.
