Spon street got heavily bombed during the war, many of those buildings are from other areas of the city that were being re-developed

they were regarded as too good to destroy, so were moved there.

I got married in the registry office - which doubled for the witches house in an episode of doctor who a year or two back. It used to be a gatehouse for the black prince's manner house in stivichall if memory serves me correctly.

I currently live in earlsdon, and have done for the past three years

I saw a night in november a year or two ago, the opening night nearly got cancelled due to a WW2 bomb being found on the building site next door to the theater

the night we were in, the smoke machines / smoke from the pyrotechnics set the fire alarm off.

I didn't realise there were so many of us on here, I lived in Earlsdon for 25 years, Collingwood road, Broomfield road, Mayfield Rd

I used to use a pub in Spon End, I think, that had a great free jazz night on Fridays

Coventry born and bred, but left there in my early 20's some 25 years ago, been back once in last 10 years for a couple of hours. All family moved away now too.

Having said that, am extremely proud of Coventry's heritage, just a shame the Luftwaffe virtually obliterated it (it was said to be one of the finest medieval cities in UK pre-WWII). Also proud of it's engineering heritage, sadly just a shadow of it's former self nowadays (was born and brought up in Allesley Park, couple of miles from the Jag, when still Coventrians made them).

All my family are Brummmies, parents moved just down the road to Coventry in early 1960's, so used to enjoy telling all my cousins how Coventry was one of England's great Cathedral Cities in the Middle Ages, when Birmingham was a collection of mud tracked villages

That's interesting - I never knew that! I'd wondered how Spon Street survived the bombing.

If I remember what I've read about pre-war Spon End It wasn't the nicest of places to live. Back to back terraces, small courts and houses sharing taps and outside toilets.

You could go fishing in the Coventry Canal.
There are some decent-sized roach, skimmers and tench in there, I was reading in Pole Fishing magazine.

You could have gone to see the monkeys here. Last day today so it's a bit late.

The Robert Longden canal life photos are supposed to be good too.
