Whatever issues people have, she sounds like one very brave and sensible little girl. It certainly sounds plausible that the large cycling helmet would have yanked her neck and head back as she hit the floor though. I thought the majority of head injuries seen in children in this country were largely down to cycling though? For this reason I would generally recomend them wearing helmets. Compulsion is clearly self defeating though.

I want the "innocent" driver under who's wheels I perish to be racked with guilt and never get a good night's sleep again.

Great comment made on that article too...

"It should absolutely be made illegal to cycle without a helmet, and should be more stringently enforced than driving without a seatbelt on. If you die through poor or dangerous cycling, then your life is yours to lose - your choice, fair enough. Think, however, of the guilt that the innocent driver whose wheels you cycle under will feel. I feel let down when I see fellow cyclists ride dangerously without a helmet - giving us all a bad name!"

...and this person says he/she is a cyclist.

Each person can make their own choice, I wear a helmet, if others don't want to then that's their call.... but wtf is this comment all about???

Absolutely, because we all know a helmet will save your whole body from being crushed under the wheels of a car...

Yeah I saw that comment as well. I have lost count of the amount of times I have cycled under the wheels of innocent drivers and goodness knows how they must be feeling now. Just glad that they ran over my head otherwise I would not be here to type this now.

I've been tempted to reply on there, but I am registered under my own name and people at the ET and in Glasgow know who I am, so I think it would be counterproductive. If someone else wants to though.....

It's all cookies and stuff and you have to supply an e-mail etc. I'd rather not risk it.

Quite right. Someone might run you over just to prove how vulnerable unhelmetted cyclists are.

I was merely addressing the helemt broke here neck idea

Funny how we're told not to comment on accidents unless we know but we can freely speculate and decide when someone smashes their helemt in a head on over the handlebars accident that saves their skull, as it's supposed to do, but breaks their neck, no part of the helmet's task

the accident and what she says are different topics anyway, who cares about the accident, is there some need to discredit the helmet so her preaching can be discredited?

I'm wondering if a complaint, not to the paper but the press complaints commission might be the best approach.

Don't take this the wrong way but the PCC?

"Excuse me PCC, a newspaper ran a story based on pure assumption and questionable opinion. Please can you do something about this out-of-character behaviour"

At the risk of being flamed by the anti helmet revolutionary society, judging by the impact area on the helmet in the photo, it could well have saves her from greater injury as it looks to have slowed the impact.

I do wonder however why we never hear about the times that people fall off and the helmet sticks to the road and breaks their neck with twisting, which must happen?
