I feel your pain, last week cycling up Broadgate my campag gear lever snapped, the front derailleur still worked so I had in effect gone from 20 speed to 2 and was stuck in gear. I am house sitting across the other side of London to where I live so yesterday I went to cycle the 10 or so miles across London to replace with my singlespeed and somehow managed to break my left pedal so I could'nt clip in so had to cycle the last 5 miles 1 legged and stuck in gear. On the way I was cursing my luck and wondered what else could go wrong to actually make me stop riding, and having done it before, concluded that if I'd have snapped a seatpost that would have finished me off and finally made riding impossible, but I guess it would have made funny viewing watching someone try it.
The worst bit is I am currently unemployed and campag is notoriously spendy, the replacement plastic lever is 40 quid, but more offputting was the online video instructions for replacing it which just looked a joke. It was so fiddly it looked a a brain surgeon training simulator, like spending all day on the beer and then trying to remove the wishbone during the game of Operation while blindfolded.
The only saving grace is I now know what to ask for Xmas. However I'm not sure if I can ask for one of Santa elves as a present to help me fit it, they are supposed to be pretty good with their hands, but I'd bet a campag shifter dismantle and reassemble would make them invent some new swear words that would make Mr and Mrs Santa blush.
