Again IMO and some folk may say I am wrong but the mix of over overtaking/undertaking and switching positions here is a perfect example of how to put yourself in plenty of danger when riding in a busy city....

You are talking Sheidt (Raphael Phillipe) with the congestion, one way systems, multiple lanes (left turn only/ right tun only), turning bans, road works, etc to move in the city you have to move. If I felt I was putting my self in danger I would not do it.

The 'proof of the pudding' is that HLaB had plenty of time to avoid the car when it pulled out, and showed good awareness avoiding the seductive ' signal right, turn left' trick.

You must live a very sheltered life, Wigsie. I watched that clip and I saw some pretty fast and effective handling of choked inner city traffic - awareness, thinking ahead and patience when required. Remember that the camera makes the gaps look smaller than they are.

Don't think I'd have gone down the inside of that truck. And I certainly wouldn't have had a big strop with a car driver for doing what that one did ... how did you expect her to see you when you'd hidden yourself behind the lorry?

I cross 1 wide roundabout and 2 sets of traffic lights on my commute to work, the other 18 miles are country lanes and A/B roads.

I agree with the second manouver he was right and reacted well. My point is he was making assuptions and it is a bit off to pull that undertaking move and then moan about it! 'proof of the pudding' is he didnt get knocked of that time but imo undertaking HGV's at junctions is a numbers game.

It struck me, watching the film, that the bike rider was being JUST as aggressive and unreasonable as most car drivers.

Driving up the inside, shouting and hollering at some poor innocent who didn't see you shoot out of an unexpected spot, carrying on shouting and cursing them for another few hundred yards? Isn't that what Mondeo Man and his brothers do, all the sodding time?

There should be a psychological test for ALL road users; failure would confine you to walking. Roads would be nice and peaceful, and maybe the pavements would be a place to avoid...

I don't think I had a big strop, actually I had a bit of a laugh. I wouldn't normally go down the left of a HGV but in that situation I'd probably do similar again, given the road layout, traffic conditions etc. I actually had a much better view of the car and much more room than it looks from the camera and all while she done her manouvre she never one made eye contact with the driver of the HGV, so I didn't really expect the driver to notice me hence I slowed down a bit to let the HGV take the brunt of any impact.

Its fantastic, except when the french decide to strike and the M20 is closed, then you get HGV's passing you at 50-60mph and the stretch of A20 tends to get a bit manic.

If there was the likelihood of a two-three minute delay, I'd slow and possibly wait a few seconds to the left rear of the lorry as the gap would have been bigger, the lorry would have been stationary and you could have checked to see if there were high-sided vans parked to your left making an over the handle-bars, over the bonnet escape v difficult if the HGV changed its course.

As I said and other people have said the camera doesn't pick up everything and their right. The oneway layout prevents any dodgy movements at that junction and the grid lock restricts it further and there was much more space than it appears. My initial estimate of 2-3 minutes was conservative, the traffic is abominable. I had a good 5 minutes before sitting in traffic to assess the situation. I think my tact of letting other vehicles taking the impact rather than me instead of expecting them to see me is a good one. As I said I just found it funny in all that time she never once looked at the HGV driver. That's all well saying you'd wait behind the HGV, in another place I'd wait behind it too but in that situation you'd be waiting all day B).
