Years ago, I had a pair of Briko Stinger sunglasses. They were, without question, the best cycling eyewear I've ever used. They had blue arms/frame with the bright lime green Thrama mirror lenses. Managed to pick them up at the 1995 Grundig World Cup MTB event at Newnham Park in Plymouth for a very reasonable £35.00.

The first thing the Mrs said when she saw me wearing them was "bloody hell, you look like a praying mantis"! On a similar note, whilst out mountain biking one weekend, a family stopped me I the middle of a forest to ask for directions, as they were lost. As I was trying to help them, the lady actually asked me to remove my Stingers, as I was apparently upsetting her small child.

Me and my super cool glasses were undaunted and enjoyed many miles on the bike over a couple of years........until, I came home from work one day to find one of the arms snapped off. The Mrs blamed our 1 year old daughter................but I'm still suspicious!

Anyway, does anyone know if there might be a secret stockpile of Stingers at the back of a cycle shop somewhere, as I have an urge to return to the praying mantis days, with a view to possibly progressing to upsetting small children again?

The small child was right.

OMG, those things like frighteningly ugly.. (No offence mate)
I guess..............but when I put them on, I turned into Pantani.......errrrrrrr perhaps!

Seriously though, the lenses were so good. The clarity with which you saw things, especially on more overcast days, was unreal! Currently have some Oakleys which are OK, but nowhere near what I remember the Stingers being!

Yellow lenses are great for ultimate clarity.. On grey days, throw some Yellow lenses on and boom, its a bright sunny day and everything is razor sharp..

Tried this with my model flying glasses that have the yellow lenses and the difference was staggering, and those are only £30 glasses, but the oakleys seem to be more dependent on what lenses you have and when you use them :-)
