Did he sing sentimental songs in a soft low voice or belt out "Cmon baby light my fire!"?
Both.

I went to see the UK Subs last week, with 71 year old Charlie Harper on lead vocals and he / they were excellent. I'd go as far as to say it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.

he was lead singer of a rock/pop band. This does not a crooner make. On that basis Robert Smith of The Cure is a crooner
Robert Smith and jo Brand... never seen in the same room... I think they are the same person :okay:

I've seen Neil young a couple of times in the past decade. I love Neil Young. His big plus point is that when you start out with a crap voice it doesn't get any worse!

Saw him a couple of years ago with Crazy Horse. It was fantastic and he was in great voice. I don't agree that he can't sing. He has a very particular range and he pushes against it - in the same manner as his guitar playing. It's always on the edge of falling apart completely but usually stays just on this side of that thin line...

Well said! It's almost as though you think "Oh Lordy, how's he going to get out of that tonal mess?".... and then he does.
