old school reports

Never had anything like that in my school, just a Report Card that had F(fair), G(good) VG(very good) or VG+ (teachers pet) printed against each subject. The card had to be signed by a "Parent or Guardian" and returned next day, so no permanent record for the pupil to retain, thank goodness.

My mother had such a hard signature to forge for detention slips. I recall.

I remember one that I intercepted: ''deptfordmarmoset has spent a sixth-form career fraught with idleness and insouciance. He has consistently refused to read the set texts...'' And then he got really stuck in. Tutor and I really, really didn't get on.

was my most memorable.

My last one sticks in the mind.....
"Kestevan is far too familar with the social side of college life, and far too un-familiar with the academic...."

Having gone to rather 'sheltered' infant and primary schools, the move to a secondary school with more freedom but also plenty of opportunities for 'sillyness' was an eye-opener for me.

The dialogue between teacher and my mother at the first parents evening went something like this

Teacher " Slowwww is a bright boy, but he doesn't concentrate, must try harder and is occasionally insolent"
Mother " I think he's just adjusting to coming to a much bigger school, and he has got into some bad company"
Teacher " I'm sorry, but Slowwww is in bad company when he's on his own!"

Not a high point in teh realtionship between me and my parents!

Mostly could do better if he applied himself.

I always remember the music teacher always wrote "not quite in tune" which has led me to wonder if there would be a career for me in one of these trendy boy bands!

I was told that I was "languishing in the shallows of my talent". Which in hindsight is quite a beautiful phrase.

The school reports that we receive from my daughters school now are so bland, they tell us nothing.
Have the teachers been told to write comments that wont get them into trouble?
