Agree with you needing less the fitter you get..The amount of runners I see at 10k or 10 mile race's using gels you just do not need them over that distance..if you have fueled up correctly before and you are
hydrated there should be no need for gels over that distance..

Exactly so! I don't even use drinks for up to 10m (unless it's a race.. and again I would take a sip if it's provided regularly). I'm used to perform for up to 2 hours without anything more than drinks. I did use gels once, but I didn't feel the benefit. Maybe I'm not good enough to make a difference, I'm not sure.. plus they taste like cr*p! xx(

Having said that I could possibly need a chocolate cupcake, but I haven't found a way to accomodate one in my jersey.... :shy:

Lord. I wish I had the TIME to do a 70 every weekend. I presume you mean miles.

Yeah miles  I get out at 7am for the ride and a cake shop stop. Back home for family stuff by 12.30-1pm. Other half likes me to get my 'sanity' fix weekly

But, but,but, that's like doing a bloody sportive 52 times a year!

You get used to it! I commute too, but only about 60m a week. Our Saturday ride is sportive pace too, took me a while for my body to handle it! Plenty here do more than that though. I have had the odd Saturday off, and a few where I've driven to the start which makes it only a 57.

Apart from commuting most of my rides include a Cafe stop so no need to take food with me, the charity ride I did in the summer didn't include a Cafe stop and was fuelled by malt loaf.

There are so many options and its very individual what works for people. Some swear by squash. I like cytopower, it tastes nice and keeps me going longer than some of the others and doesn't give me a huge sugar hangover like high5 seems to.

Get some free samples or individual sachets and try some different things.
